The art gallery, some of great renown; contemporary art and painting workshops; the artisan shops, between eclectic characters and visionary spaces: this is where there are funny meetings and interesting purchases. There are also decorators (by hand) on glass, the ceramists, wood masters which know how to free their fantasy in an attractive way. But it is from the food and wine aspect that the Fields offer varying degrees of success regarding this subject, in order to invite to purchase something which is more than a souvenir of a trip. If there are people dedicating themselves to the production of herbal liqueurs or marmalades, focusing on a mainly touristic clientele, it is particularly in the wine industry that there is a variety of products (not only for the specialists, but also for “normal” noses and palates) of which there is a lot of choice. Going around wineries is in fact a fascinating experience, in the heart of the DOC Campi Flegrei which is summed up in the essential history of two vine varieties, the Falanghina and the Piedirosso, which are cultivated in very special landscapes. Even in this case, we meet a millenary story, because de Roman intellectuals, from Cato to Columella already described with great clarity the organoleptic particularities of the wines of the area. Bottles signed by companies which have found great markets not only in Italy but abroad as well, which know how to express a clear age-old identity. Just think of the Falanghina which owes its name to the “phalanx”, in other words to the supporting pole around which the progressive development of the vines: this is the characteristic of the phlegraean viticulture which has a the training systems with poles.
