SANNIO
SAMNITE, ROMAN, LONGOBARD AND MAGIC
IN THE KINGDOM OF THE SLEEPING
IN THE LAND OF THE PROUD SAMNITES
WINES, OILS, PECORINO AND NOUGAT
Unmistakable, the sinuous and placid profile of the "Sleeper" stands out against the blue sky. It is she who identifies this stretch of the Campanian Apennines with the Sannio. An ancient territory, for its human history and even more for the geological one. Ancient, like the imposing Taburno massif whose peaks, shaped by the atmospheric elements for hundreds of millions of years, outline the shapes of the "Sleeper". Among all, the highest is the peak that gives its name to the entire mountain complex which is also a regional natural park: Monte Taburno, sung by Virgil for its olive trees and pastures, which reaches 1391 meters.
Sannio corresponds to the province of Benevento, established in 1860, the least populous of Campania, which borders on Molise and Puglia, the provinces of Caserta and Avellino and the Metropolitan Area of Naples. It extends for 2,080 square kilometers, entirely in the interior of Campania, and includes 78 Municipalities. It can be reached thanks to the railway. By car with the A1 Autostrada del Sole Milano- Napoli, with the Autostrada A16 Naples-Bari motorway, the SS 88 dei Due Principati state road, the SS 7 Appia state road.
