Monte della Stella(Mount of the Star) rises a few kilometers from the coast, between the two Greek cities of Poseidonia and Elea, in the middle of the "Ancient Cilento" of which it represents the origin and identity due to its ancient history and that has seen it as a protagonist since prehistoric times.
One of the many paths leading to the top starts from Galdo. Among imposing rocks, Mediterranean maquis and woods, we climb up to the summit of 1131m a.s.l., where we find the hermitage of S. Maria della Stella, one of the most important Marian sanctuaries in Cilento is the "Castello Radar"(Radar Castle), which is the first example of a civil radar system designed by Italian industries. Going down for about a kilometer in N/W direction, we find the sacred area of the megaliths, among these the best known is without a doubt "Preta ru Mulacchio", an anthropic opera dating back to about 2000 years BC. This perfectly pointed mountain resembles the shape of a starfish with its five extended offshoots in all cardinal points, thanks to which it can boast panoramic views of considerable suggestion over the entire Cilento Park and Vallo di Diano to the north, overlooking from Sele plain to the Lattari with its Divina Costiera. Passing through the summit, the path descends towards the ancient village of San Mauro Cilento, skirting most of the exposed rock level, which offers extraordinary views of the coast from Velia to Capo Palinuro, without excluding the rare and unique chance of seeing part of the Calabrian coast and the island of Stromboli to its extreme south.
