The wood inlay is a typical form of artistic craftsmanship of Sorrento and has been an emblem for the travelers of the Grand Tour.
And even today, the decoration of wood surfaces, which has modified some techniques over time, without forgetting the fundamental expertise in fitting the wooden pieces together, continues offering modern products you can buy at the artists’ workshops still representative of a noble art which has its origins in the fifteenth century. In the centre of Sorrento, the Pomarici Santomaso Palace houses the Boutique Museum of the wood inlay (Museo Bottega della Tarsia lignea), with a valuable collection of furniture and objects produced between the fifteenth and the nineteenth century.
